Catching Fire is the second Hunger Games book, where Katniss is pulled back into the arena for the Quarter Quell, and it's often the one fans say is the best of the series. Language is almost a non-issue. Our reviewers tagged a single mild profanity across eleven hours, plus two severe slurs that are brief. The time goes elsewhere. Violence is 58 moments adding up to about nine and a half minutes, split between mild and moderate, with four severe. That's the arena, and it's what the series is about. Sexual content is eighteen moments, none severe, totaling almost seven minutes. Substance use is more than people might expect, thirteen moments and almost six minutes, including the longest severe moment in the book at about twenty-two seconds. All in, you'd skip about twenty-two minutes. The verdict is Moderate. I'd hand this to a twelve or thirteen year old who's read the first book, with slurs, sexual content, and severe violence filtered. For a younger reader, add moderate violence and substance use, and know you'll be skipping a fair amount of the arena itself. Older teens and adults can play it with just slurs filtered if they want. Either way, it's a series a lot of families read together, and the filters let you keep doing that.
