Is To Sleep in a Sea of Stars Clean? Profanity and Content Guide for the Audiobook

I picked this up expecting Paolini to bring that same sweep he had in Eragon, just set against a cosmic backdrop instead of a fantasy one, and mostly he delivers. Thirty-two hours is a long ride, and the content is spread unevenly enough that it matters where you are in the book. Chapter 39 is the one I'd flag before you hand this to a teenager: it concentrates more tagged segments than almost anywhere else in the story, and Chapter 32 has a severe scene that runs just over a minute and lands harder than anything around it. The profanity count is the biggest number here, nearly five hundred segments, but most of that is mild and the severe hits are few enough that filtering knocks them out without you noticing the seams. The violence is where I'd pay closer attention. Almost a hundred moderate segments and a handful of severe ones mean the battle sequences feel genuinely brutal, which fits the story Paolini is telling but will matter to some listeners. The sexual content is modest by volume but the two severe moments are real, not implied. Filtered out, they're gone. You get the same book, same narrator, same story, just without the parts you were going to skip anyway. My recommendation: this is a strong pick for adults and older teens who want serious science fiction and are fine running profanity plus violence filters together. Younger listeners or anyone sensitive to intense combat should skip this one entirely. With filters on across all categories, you'll lose just under an hour. You can still finish the book in a long weekend.
