Is The Word is Murder Clean? Profanity and Content Guide for the Audiobook
Noticeable filtering across one or more categories. Comfortable to listen to with the right filters on.
9h 2m audiobook, 146 filtered segments, 2.2% of the runtime gets skipped at full strength.
Anthony Horowitz writes himself into this one as a character, which is a fun trick, and I picked it up expecting a breezy British mystery with a little edge. That's mostly what you get. The Word is Murder runs just over nine hours, and the filtering here is genuinely light for a crime novel. Under twelve minutes touched across the whole runtime, spread thin enough that most chapters pass without a blip. The profanity is real but not relentless, a handful of severe words mixed into what is mostly mild-to-moderate language that lands the way a gritty detective story expects it to. The three slurs are brief and human-reviewed, flagged at severe, so you can let the filter catch those quietly and move on. Violence is where the book earns its Moderate rating. Forty segments, and the moderate and severe ones add up to something closer to eight minutes if you let Chapter 7 play uncut. That 55-second scene in Chapter 7 is the single longest severe stretch in the book, worth knowing before you get there. Chapter 23 is the busiest, with 21 segments, but most of those are short. Sexual content is almost a non-issue, three segments total, though one at the severe level runs just over a minute. I finished the book and I'm glad I did. Same book, same narrator, same story. If you enjoy British procedurals and you're listening with a teenager or just want a cleaner commute, turn on profanity, slur, and violence filters and you'll lose maybe ten minutes. This one is clean enough to listen with older kids who are into mysteries.
