Is Fourth Wing Clean? Profanity and Content Guide for the Audiobook

Fourth Wing landed on my list because everyone I know who reads fantasy has either finished it or quit it, and I wanted to know which camp I was going to end up in. I quit at chapter 30. Not because the dragon warfare stops being thrilling, because it absolutely does not, but because chapter 30 carries the heaviest single scene in the book: almost twenty-three minutes of content that gets filtered under the sexual category, and it sits inside a chapter with 86 tagged segments total. That is a lot to navigate in one sitting.

Here is the honest picture. Rebecca Yarros wrote a genuinely propulsive story, and the same book, same narrator, same story is available to you with AudioHaven running. The question is how much you want to trim. At full filtering, you lose three hours and twenty-one minutes across a twenty-two hour runtime, most of it split between violence that earns its place in a war-school fantasy and sexual content that very much does not fade to black. The profanity count is high but spread thin enough that moderate filtering handles it without chopping up the pacing.

My recommendation: if you are listening alone and you are comfortable with action-fantasy that skips explicit scenes, turn on profanity and sexual filtering and you can finish the book without much disruption. If you are sharing the car with teenagers, the violence alone runs long and some of it is severe. This one is not a good fit for mixed-age road trips. Adults who read Yarros for the romance will want to know upfront that the filtered version keeps the tension, just not the explicit follow-through.
