Is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Clean? Profanity and Content Guide for the Audiobook

Verdict
Moderate

Noticeable filtering across one or more categories. Comfortable to listen to with the right filters on.

21h 36m audiobook, 275 filtered segments, 2.8% of the runtime gets skipped at full strength.

If you've been filtering your way through the series, Deathly Hallows is where the numbers jump. The final Harry Potter book is a war story, and violence accounts for most of what gets cut: 145 moments totaling roughly 30 minutes, with 16 rated severe and the longest of those running a little over a minute. That is more than double the severe violence of any earlier book in the series. Hate speech climbs too, to 15 moments and nearly three minutes, which fits a story where blood-purity ideology has taken over the wizarding government. Language stays modest. Profanity shows up 36 times with nothing rated severe, blasphemy is entirely mild, and there are three severe slurs. Sexual content is brief, eight moments and under two minutes, with two at the severe level. Over a twenty-one and a half hour listen, the full filter set removes about 36 minutes, under three percent of the book. My take: for a younger reader finishing the series, turn on Violence at moderate and severe and add Slur and Sexual Content. They'll still follow every turn of the plot, because the cuts are short and spread out, and Jim Dale is there the whole way. For a teenager, filtering severe violence alone is enough. This is the payoff to seven books, and the right settings let a kid finish the book without a parent hovering over the volume button.
