Is Ashes of Man Clean? Profanity and Content Guide for the Audiobook

Ashes of Man is the kind of book I genuinely wanted to finish, and I did, but I want to be upfront with you about what you're signing up for. Christopher Ruocchio writes big, brutal science fiction, and this one earns its Moderate verdict honestly. I picked this up expecting something in the vein of his Sun Eater series and that instinct was right. The world is immersive, the narrator pulls you in, and the story moves. It also carries real weight in the violence category, which accounts for the bulk of that filtered runtime. Most of those segments are moderate, the kind of battlefield and consequence material that makes the stakes feel real, but Chapter 36 has the longest severe scene in the book, running about forty-four seconds, and it lands hard. Chapter 26 is the other one to flag. It clusters more tagged segments than almost anywhere else in the book, so if you're listening during a commute with kids in the back seat, just know that stretch is coming. The sexual content is limited but not absent. One severe segment clocks in, surrounded by a handful of milder ones, and with filters on you'll lose a little over seven minutes total there. The slur count is low by number but every one of those fifteen segments is severe, and that's the category where I'd argue human-reviewed tagging matters most. Run profanity, violence, and sexual content filters together and you're looking at about thirty-five minutes of skipped audio across more than twenty-two hours. That's a reasonable trade. If you love serious science fiction and just want the original, cleaned up, this one is worth your time.
