Does Audible Have Clean Versions of Audiobooks?

Danny Ellis 2 min read

No. Audible doesn’t sell filtered editions of its audiobooks, and its app has no setting to skip or mute language, violence or sexual content. What you buy is the full recording.

A few publishers release separate clean or edited editions of a book, but they are rare, and Audible doesn’t label or group them.

Why other apps can’t filter Audible books

Audible books are copy-protected. They only play inside Audible’s own app, so no other app can open the file to skip parts of it. That includes AudioHaven, and it’s true of Libby library books too.

What you can do instead

If clean listening matters to you, the answer is where you buy the book, not which app you play it in.

  1. Buy DRM-free. Stores like Libro.fm, AudiobooksNow and Downpour sell audiobooks you can download and keep. Those files work with filtering apps.
  2. Link your store account. In AudioHaven you can link Libro.fm, AudiobooksNow or Downpour and your purchases come in automatically. If a book matches one we’ve reviewed, your filters apply right away.
  3. Check before you buy. Our content guides show how much profanity, violence and sexual content a book has, category by category, so you know what you’re getting before you spend the money.
  4. Ask for the rest. If a book doesn’t have filters yet, you can request it in the app. In the US you can upload a copy you own and a person reviews it, usually within 3 days.

What about books I already own on Audible?

Those stay in Audible. If you want a filtered copy of a book you love, buying it again from a DRM-free store is the only way today. It’s worth checking the guide first to see whether that particular book needs it.

AudioHaven has more than 320 modern audiobooks with filters ready and a 14-day free trial.

Listen without the worry

AudioHaven skips the language, violence, and explicit scenes you choose. Same book, same narrator, same story.
